Must Have Surfing Accessories

There is nothing better than jumping on a last minute cheap flight to some unknown destination that someone has told you has good surf. The excitement of what it’s going to be like, where you are going to stay, will the surf be big, is it going to be crowded are all thoughts running through your mind.

One thing about going to unknown places is the fact that they might not have a surf shop for you to buy must have surfing accessories that you forget.

Board Bag
The most important must have surfing accessory for any travelling surfer, not that you are likely to forget it but because you need to make it a good quality one.

Board bags are a universal piece of kit for any surfer; it stops your board from being dinged by care free baggage handlers, you can use it to stuff extra clothes and duty free inside and it has its uses when doubling up as a sleeping bag on the beach for those extra cheap accommodation nights.

Leash
This is a must have surfing accessory that just cannot be forgotten especially when travelling to some remote destination with no surf shop. Take a spare leash in case the unlikely event of one snapping, you will definitely lose your board on those gnarly reef breaks without it.

A leash can also double up to lash your board to the roof of a rental car, but I would do this out of sight of the rental company.

Wax or Grip
You have just got to have traction on that board and just because it is waxed up when it goes on the plane doesn’t mean it will come back with wax on it. Nasty cases of boards being placed in hot spots on a plane causes wax to melt, that alone is enough to ruin your surf trip.

Wet Suit
Even if you are going where the water is warm take a Shorty for those extra long sessions and to protect yourself from sun burn, a must have surfing accessory for European destinations even in summer.
