World's Best Surf Beaches

The beaches of Hawaii, South Africa, and Australia are well known as some of the best spots for surfing in the world, but they are not the only places that surfers can get the maximum thrill. There are quite a few hot spots for surfers around the world that should not be overlooked by any serious surfer.

Australia
On any list of the top surf beaches in the world, you are sure to find the Gold Coast of Australia. With over 70 km of beaches, you'll have more than enough waves to tame. Kirra seems to be one of the hottest points and the season for surfing there is May through August.

South Africa
Another hotspot that you will find on just about any list of the top surf beaches is Jeffreys Bay. Whilst it may be one of the best surf spots in the world, it does tend to get very crowded at the height of the season and there is the danger of great white sharks.

United States
The US barely makes the list of the top places to surf with mixed opinions. California and Hawaii are the two states with the most to offer to surfers. Malibu and Waikiki Beach are two of the most popular havens for surfers in the US.

France
France, like the US, barely makes the list of top surf beaches in the world, but it does have a place that should not be missed. Hossegor, in the south west of France is home to the Cote D'Argent and the warmest water there is from August - October.

Spain
October through March is the season and the time when you will find the biggest swells when visiting the Canary Islands. Fuerteventura and Lanzarote are very popular with Europeans and the beaches tend to get very crowded during the surfing season.

Indonesia
The Mentawai Islands and Bali are the spots to surf in Indonesia. From April to November Bali sees consistent 12 ft waves. The biggest swells in the Mentawai Islands occur from June to September and because these islands block the swells from reaching the mainland they are the most perfect surf spots in the region.
